An Open Letter to the Citizens of District 2

By Paul McKain, on Aug 10, 2010

Good Day, Citizens of District 2:

Who gives a...?

Who gives a damn...?

We now have partisan squabbling over who can visit the Gulf area to view firsthand the damage done to the water and coastal areas.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) wanted to fly ten lawmakers down to the Gulf of Mexico to see the damage caused by the BP oil spill. He applied to use his Members Representational Allowance about two weeks ago. If anyone has the right to travel to the affected area, why not a Representative from one of the hardest hit areas, at least at this point?

Bailouts for Failing News Outlets: More Spreading the Wealth Around

By Paul McKain, on Jun 10, 2010

Today while reading the news of the day, I came across an article that cut me to the quick. It is about the Federal Government taxing and censoring media via the internet.

The government's reasoning encompasses the idea that too many Americans are getting their news for free via the internet and that the content can be less than stellar. My question to the Feds is this: “Less than stellar by whose standards?”

The attempts on the table right now are a series of taxes that will be levied on various news groups that people find acceptable, and then “spreading the funds” to news groups that are not doing so well.
